Start somewhere familiar.

A neighbourhood name. An old photograph. A detail you remember. Follow a thread through Banjul, and help us keep the whole story.

Historical place names, not a boundary map. We do not infer a recording's location from its filename.

A city with many stories

12 research notes

Written sources are a starting point, not the last word. These notes are researched context, separate from community testimony and recording transcripts.

The city now called Banjul entered a new colonial phase in 1816, when the British established Bathurst on St Mary's Island. This city-wide context should not be used to erase older names, uses, or communities on the island.

The books do not know everything.
