Who decides

Family authority, corrections, and takedown.

A recording being on the site never means it was published without permission. Here is exactly how that works and how to ask for a change.

Family authority

A senior member of the family — the person the community already looks to for that family's decisions — is who Hamanteh treats as the authority over whether a story becomes public. Sharing a memory yourself does not make it public on its own.

Ask for a correction

Wrong names, dates, places, or family links get corrected. Email [email protected] with the story or family name and what needs to change.

Ask for a takedown

A senior family member can ask us to remove a public entry entirely at any time. We send a full export of everything we hold first, then remove it from the public site.

For families and visitors

Public community site.

The public site is the living history side. It should feel warm, clear, and rooted in Banjul and Gambian oral history, not like an internal data system.
