Trust · Half Die

The family decides what becomes public.

Every recording that reaches Hamanteh stays private by default. This page explains, plainly, who has the authority to change that, what each permission actually does, and how to ask for a correction or a full withdrawal.

The family decides what becomes public. Every recording is reviewed by a person before release.

Sources of authority

Who decides

A family, not a form.

A senior member of the family — the person the community already looks to for that family's decisions — is who Hamanteh treats as the authority over whether a story becomes public. Submitting a memory does not make it public on its own: the archive team follows up with the family before anything is released.

Original recordings are logged the moment they arrive, from any source. Being logged is never the same as being permitted — nothing reaches the public archive until that confirmation happens.

Permission scopes

What permission means

Five separate choices, not one blanket yes.

Nothing is published when you press Submit. The archive team reviews the material and confirms permission with the family first. Storing, processing, and publishing are three separate, required choices; using transcript text for language research and crediting the submitter by name are optional and start switched off.

Store recordings and photos

Required to keep any of the material at all.

Required
Process for review

Required so staff can prepare it for a decision.

Required
Publish once the family confirms

Required for anything to ever go public.

Required
Language-tool research

Optional, off by default. Separate from publishing.

Machine drafts are never the final word

When a transcript starts from an AI draft, it stays marked as a rough guess until a person listens and confirms every line — a rough draft is never presented to the public as a finished transcript.

Requesting a change

Correction path

See something wrong? Tell us.

Wrong names, dates, places, or family links get corrected — email the archive team with the story or family name and what needs to change. What we collect, how long we keep it, and your full rights are in the Privacy notice.

Read the Privacy notice

Send a tracked correction or withdrawal request below. It goes into the archive team's private review queue. Nothing is changed automatically.

Provide either an email address or a phone number so the archive team can follow up.

Withdrawal

Takedown path

Any family can ask for a full withdrawal, at any time.

A senior family member can ask us to remove a public entry entirely. We send a complete export of everything we hold first, then remove the entry from the public site. The exact steps and timelines are set out in the Terms.

Read the takedown procedure

Withdrawing consent for one use, for example language-tool research, does not require removing the whole entry. Use the request form above and choose Withdrawal.

Who has access

Who reviews

A small trained team, never the open internet.

Anyone who works inside Hamanteh — staff or a community transcriber — may hear private family information before a story is public. They work only inside Hamanteh: no downloading, copying, discussing, or sharing a recording outside the assigned task.

A person reviews consent, sensitivity, and accuracy before anything moves from private material to a public story.
