The 1994 break in electoral rule

A coup interrupted the long First Republic, with a later electoral transition.

The government's electoral chronology identifies the July 1994 military coup that removed the elected Jawara government and installed the Armed Forces Provisional Ruling Council under Yahya Jammeh. This is a dated institutional break, not a neutral continuation of elections. [gambia-elections]

It also describes a transition plan and establishment of a provisional electoral commission in December 1995. A fuller account of abuses and their aftermath belongs alongside the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations Commission's own evidence, which this batch has not yet evaluated at volume level.
