Farafenni at the North Bank crossing

The town's commercial role was shaped by the Trans-Gambia crossing.

WhatsAppFacebook

Hughes and Perfect's 2008 historical dictionary describes Farafenni as a commercial centre at the northern end of the Trans-Gambia ferry. The crossing connected North Bank trade to traffic heading across the river, while the town also housed a provincial hospital established in 1999. [hughes-perfect-dictionary]

The 2013 GBoS directory separately enumerates Farafenni as a settlement. The dictionary's 2003 estimated population is a different date and method; it should not be presented as a current count or silently combined with later administrative totals. [gbos-settlements] [hughes-perfect-dictionary]
